As all of the U.S. reacted in horror to the news of a shooting at Colorado’s Arapahoe High School, the news hit particularly close to home for Glee’s Melissa Benoist (Marley). The actress, 23, is an alumnus of that very high school.

Melissa, who recently confirmed that she and co-star Blake Jenner (Ryderare engaged, responded immediately to the heartbreaking news of AHS’s school shooting.

“Very shocked and deeply sad about my alma mater, AHS. It's all that's on my mind--my thoughts go out to everyone at the school. #warriors,” she tweeted on December 13.

Arapahoe High School is located in suburban Denver, and People reports that Colorado emergency officials confirm that police are currently responding to a report of a school shooting there. No more immediate details are available.

However, CNN reports that at least two people were injured before the gunman took his own life. In an eerie connection, the school is only about eight miles east of Columbine High School, where two teenagers killed 12 students and a teacher back in 1999 before killing themselves.

This shooting is almost a year after the massacre in Newtown, Connecticut, where 20 students and six teachers lost their lives. That tragic ordeal inspired Glee to do a school shooting-based episode: Season 4, Episode 18: "Shooting Star," which aired in April of this year and was met with some criticism from parents of Newtown children, who felt it was too soon.

Whether or not you think Glee’s episode happened too soon, we bet everyone can agree that this newest school shooting happened far too soon. Tragedies like this should be much fewer and further between.
