We here at Wetpaint Entertainment are pretty obsessed with Glee. We write anywhere from six to 17 articles about the show on any given day, which means the total number of articles really starts to add up by the end of the year.
As 2013 comes to a close, we’re taking a look back at which of the year’s Glee stories fans like you clicked on the most. From Heather Morris’ (Brittany) pregnancy to Cory Monteith’s (Finn) sudden passing, there’s no doubt that this was quite an eventful year for the show and its stars.

Not everyone likes to read spoilers. Some fans prefer to wait and be surprised. But people who do like spoilers just can’t seem to get enough! Our Glee Season 5 Spoiler Roundup, started near the end of Season 4 and continually updated as new spoilers emerged, was Wetpaint Entertainment’s most read Glee article this year. A spoiler from this April about the identity of Ryder’s Catfish was the #20 most-read Glee story.
Coming Out... or Not
Every time Darren Criss (Blaine) opens his mouth to sing on Glee, fans all over the world head to Google to ask one burning question: Is Darren Criss Gay? This article was our #7 most read article of 2013, with Which Glee Stars Are Gay in Real Life? coming in at #5. (Former guest star Charice’s coming out was the year’s #15 most read story.)
On Glee, straight actors and actress play LGBT characters, and vice versa. And LGBT actors play LGBT characters. This show has some of the most diverse characters on television, and that’s just one of the many reasons we love it.
Oh, and in case you missed it, Darren confirmed in June that he and long-rumored girlfriend Mia Swier have indeed been dating for years. The article was 2013’s #37 most read story. Also: We have tissues and/or gallon cartons of ice cream if you need them.
Cory Monteith in Rehab
On March 31, we learned that Cory Monteith had checked into rehab for substance addiction. Though Glee fans knew the star had dealt with substance issues a decade ago, most assumed that battle was far behind him. This shocking news was 2013’s #26 most read Glee story, with an initial report on which substances he was battling landing at #23 for the year.
Heather Morris is Pregnant!
On a much happier note, we learned in April that Heather Morris was pregnant with her first child, a story that took spot #11 for the year. Photos of Heather’s growing baby bump came in at #21 and #24, while co-star Naya Rivera’s (Santana) reaction to the news was #31 and a photo of pregnant Heather at an L.A. Beyoncé concert came in at #32. She gave birth to son Elijah on September 28, and that story landed at #14 for the year.
Cory Monteith’s Death
There’s no doubt that Cory Monteith’s sudden passing this July hit everyone very hard. Fans read tons of articles about Cory’s death: More than 42 percent of this year’s top stories had to do with the Glee star’s passing in some way.
The initial July 13 story that Cory had been found dead in his Vancouver hotel room was 2013’s #2 most read story. His girlfriend Lea Michele’s reaction to the news came in at #3, while the final coroner’s report — released nearly three months later — was the #4 most read story of the year.
A previous story about co-star Matthew Morrison (Will) saying he thought Cory and Lea would eventually get married came in at #8, while #9 was a gallery of the couple’s cutest photos. The initial July 17 autopsy report, which revealed that Cory had died of “a mixed drug toxicity, involving heroin and alcohol,” came in at #10.
Story #12 was Cory talking about how nervous he was the first time he and Lea met, while #13 was the reveal that Lea had gotten a ribcage tattoo in memory of Cory. The list goes on and on, with stories #16, 22, 25, 28, and 33 through 36 all having to do with Cory’s passing, as well as the Glee cast’s reaction to it.
Cory Monteith Tribute Episode
On October 10, Glee aired Season 5, Episode 3: “The Quarterback,” a tribute to both Cory and Finn. The question of how Finn would die landed at the #19 most read story of the year, while drama surrounding why Dianna Agron (Quinn) wasn’t in the episode also got plenty of interest.
A report that Lea Michele didn’t want Dianna in the episode was #17, while a follow up denying the drama came in at #38. First-look photos of the episode came in at #40, while the the news that creator Ryan Murphy had always planned to have Glee end with Finn and Rachel getting back together was the #42 most read story of the year.
Other Top Stories
On October 17, just a week after the Cory Tribute aired, Ryan Murphy confirmed that Glee would be ending after Season 6. (But just to clarify, that’s not until Spring 2015, so we’ve still got plenty of Glee left to go!) That story was the #6 most read of 2013.
Now that Real Housewives of Atlanta star NeNe Leakes (Coach Roz) is a recurring Glee star, we took a poll to see which other Real Housewives you’d love to see on the show. NeNe’s RHoA co-star Kandi Burruss crushed the competition, and that article was the #18 most read of the year. A follow-up of five potential roles we’d like to see her play was #27 for the year.
That’s all for this year’s Top 40 Glee stories, save two articles. #29 was a lookback at Naya Rivera’s transformation over the years and #39 was co-stars Blake Jenner (Ryder) and Melissa Benoist’s (Marley) December 8 confession that, yes, they really are engaged. Congrats!
