Support has been pouring in for actress Ellen Page after her Valentine’s Day coming out speech.
"When I was younger, I lied by omission,” Jane, 53, said. “She should give herself a break and not call it 'lying.' But I know what it is to feel like you can't be open and honest about your orientation. Good for her!"
Yeah, there’s a difference between choosing to keep your private life private and being afraid to tell the truth. As Ellen said in her speech, “I suffered for years because I was scared to be out. My spirit suffered, my mental health suffered, and my relationships suffered. And I’m standing here today, with all of you, on the other side of all that pain.”
Nice! Not that coming out means your struggles are over. Relationships aren’t easy, no matter what your sexual orientation — Jane could tell Ellen all about that one. Jane’s divorce was just finalized last month, after her three-year marriage to Dr. Lara Embry.
This just means Ellen probably won’t be caught in the rumor mill with more stories like last summer’s speculation about whether she was dating Alexander Skarsgard. But the rumor mill should feel free to suggest we’re dating him. Totally fine with that.
