Tuesday night’s Glee Season 5, Episode 11: “City of Angels” threw us some major curveballs by the end of the night — including a shocking revelation that will forever change the course of the show — but luckily, the night wasn’t all doom and gloom.
The episode started with some very good news for Mercedes (Amber Riley). After almost a year of struggling in Los Angeles, our girl has officially signed a record deal with a major recording studio, and she has Kim Kardashian (of all people!) to thank.
Last season, Mercedes moved to L.A. to be a backup singer at an indie record label, only to see her contract dropped and her dreams crushed. Then one day, she was selling her CDs in a parking lot at 7-11, and one of her customers just so happened to be a maid for Kanye West. The maid played the tracks for Yeezy, and the rap superstar quickly passed them along to his fiancee, Kim Kardashian.
Kim gave the CD to her reality TV show producer, Ryan Seacrest, and Ryan passed it along to Sony Records. “Next thing I know, I'm sippin' Perrier with a bunch of rich dudes,” she tells the glee club.
The label loved Mercedes music and signed her to a songwriting deal immediately. But M said she would only take the deal if she got a recording contract along with the writing gig.
Now, Mercedes is well on her way to super-stardom. (Because that string of events totally makes sense.) Ah, Glee logic. How we love thee.
Congrats to Mercedes! Now, will someone please kindly steal her Fauxhuahua the next time she turns her back? That little stuffed dog is creepy as heck.
