Blaine (Darren Criss), Artie (Kevin McHale), and Sam (Chord Overstreet) had a rough welcome to New York City in Glee Season 5, Episode 14: “New New York”, and by the looks of it things will only take a turn for the worse in next Tuesday’s Episode 15: “Bash.” As the promo below indicates, “Bash” will deal with the hot-button issue of gay bashing.

Based on these spoiler photos we posted a few weeks ago, it looks like a character we have yet to meet, reportedly named Russ, will be the victim of a vicious attack because of his sexuality. We initially thought the attack might kill Russ, but now we’re wondering if maybe the candlelight vigil we see in both the photos and the promo may be a get well kind of thing and not a way to remember his life.

It also looks like Kurt (Chris Colfer) will get caught in the crossfire of this awful assault while trying to stop two men from beating Russ. The attack on Kurt then leads to a tear-jerking scene between him and his dad, Burt Hummel (Mike O'Malley).

The gay bashing incident is obviously the crux of Episode 15, but next week’s installment will be full of plenty of other obstacles for some of NYC’s newest residents. In the promo we see Mercedes (Amber Riley) lay into Sam about the “real world”, Rachel (Lea Michele) call out Kurt for not wanting to become a “real adult”, and much more.

Check out the moving promo for “Bash” below and tell us what you think.

Glee Season 5, Episode 15: “Bash” airs April 9 at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
