Two of our favorite recent Broadway musicals — Spring Awakening and Wicked — currently have film adaptations in development. And Glee star Lea Michele (Rachel) should be very happy about this latest news!
According to the Huffington Post, both projects are in the process of heading to the big screen, although the Spring Awakening movie is closer to coming to fruition than the Wicked one. As you may know, Lea and Glee's Jonathan Groff (Jesse) originated the lead roles in the stage version.
Spring Awakening's composer, Duncan Sheik, recently revealed that the movie is likely to begin production this year. McG, who has directed such films as This Means War and Charlie's Angels, is attached to direct. Lea and Jonathan are unlikely to reprise their roles, given their ages.
Meanwhile, rumors have circulated that Lea and One Direction star Harry Styles are being considered for the movie version of Wicked. All we know for sure is that the play's stars, Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth, are unlikely to star in the film.
We have our fingers crossed that both of these film projects will soon come together!
