Looks like we’ll be seeing some summer lovin’ next year!

First decided to take the musical to its hit show Glee, and now the studio is going to devote a full three hours to the story! Fox has announced that it plans to stage Grease as a live production — which shouldn’t be too much of a surprise following the success of NBC’s The Sound of Music Live.

The new production, creatively titled Grease Live, is set to feature “a young ensemble cast” which will attempt to reintroduce the catchy tunes to a new generation.

We have to admit that we’re already crossing our fingers to see Miley Cyrus suited up in a Pink Ladies’ jacket and filling the broody role of Rizzo. Well, we can dream, can’t we! After all, there are worse things we could do...

NBC, meanwhile, is looking to follow up The Sound of Music Live with a live adaptation of James M. Barrie’s Peter Pan, which is set to air this year on December 4.

What do you think about Fox trying to get in on the musical television special? Who do you think the studio should cast as Sandy, Danny, Rizzo, Frenchie and the rest of the T-Birds and the Pink Ladies? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
