When FOX announced earlier this month that Glee’s sixth and final season wouldn’t premiere until after the new year, we had a feeling that meant we wouldn’t be treated to the usual 22-episode order, and it looks like our hunch was correct. After all, how would Glee be able to fit the standard episode order into half the normally allotted time?

When FOX Chairman Kevin Reilly announced the Season 6 delay, he acknowledged that the amount of episodes the season would have was still being ironed out, noting, “We’re going to sit down and talk [to exec producer Ryan Murphy] about how to end the show and how many [episodes] that is.” Likely referring to Glee’s abysmal Season 5 ratings, he continued, “The advantage of airing it later in the season is that it doesn’t have to feel the pressure of delivering.”

And although FOX has yet to confirm anything about the length of Season 6, the folks over at TVLine say we could be looking at about half the standard amount of episodes.

Discussions regarding the exact episode count continue, but I hear it’ll be roughly 13 episodes,” the site’s Michael Ausiello told a curious fan. As disheartening as it is to hear that Glee’s final season will likely be cut in half, we’d rather have 13 stellar episodes than 22 so-so installments.

For what it’s worth, the cast also seems ready to say goodbye to the groundbreaking dramedy, with Lea Michele (Rachel) reasoning that it’s “time for everyone to move on.”

What do you think about the possibility that Glee’s sixth and final season will only consist of 13 episodes? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!
