It’s been a pretty quiet summer so far in terms of Glee news since the show likely won’t be gracing our television screens again until early 2015, but we’re delighted to tell you that Melissa Benoist (Marley) has just been added to the cast of a major motion picture!
Per Deadline, the Glee actress will join the ensemble cast of Fox 2000′s The Longest Ride, which is set to be directed by George Tillman, Jr. Melissa will be playing a character named Marcia, who is described as the “well intentioned roommate of Sophie.” The movie is based on the Nicholas Sparks novel of the same name and also stars Britt Robertson and Scott Eastwood — yes, Clint’s gorgeous son.
Britt and Scott lead the cast as a “young couple whose romance parallels the the intertwined love story of a local elderly man and his lady love.” Alan Alda and Jack Huston were also recently added to the film’s cast.
Movie adaptations of Nicholas Sparks’ novels have a history of often performing very well at the box office, so we’re really excited about this big opportunity for her. Even though there’s no release date for this flick set, we’ll be able to see Melissa opposite Miles Teller in Whiplash, which received high praise at Sundance earlier this year. Melissa also recently filmed Imagine opposite Al Pacino and Jennifer Garner. Looks like Hollywood could have a new It Girl!
