UPDATE (1:50 P.M. ET): In a crazy twist that not even Ryan Murphy himself could have created, we are now getting word that Chris will not be leaving Glee after all. The actor’s manager tells The Hollywood Reporter Chris’ verified Twitter account was hacked, meaning he did not send the tweet that broke our heart into a million pieces.
So what exactly does this mean?
According to Chris’ manager, his client will be back for the sixth and final season of the FOX show, and he has already signed his contract to return. Interestingly enough, the tweet that shall not be named is still up on Chris’ page, but Chris’ publicist insists the actor is currently on a mid-Atlantic flight without wi-fi access, rendering him unable to delete the tweet.
FOX has also released a statement confirming that Chris isn’t going anywhere. “We’ve been alerted that Chris Colfer’s Twitter account has been hacked,” a statement from the studio said. “Rumors of his dismissal from Glee could not be further from the truth. We love Chris and look forward to working with him again this season.”
Are you sitting down, gleeks? Because, boy, do we have some sad pre-July 4th news for you.
Today, July 3, Chris Colfer (Kurt) announced that he was fired from the FOX dramedy after five years on the show. In a tweet to his followers that is bound to break the hearts of gleeks everywhere, Chris wrote, “Due to personal issues, I have been let go from the cast of GLEE. Explanations will come shortly…”
The 24-year-old actor didn’t offer any additional info on why he won’t be returning for the show’s sixth and final season, which is set to start production sometime later this year, but like he said, we’re readying ourselves for the barrage of explanations that will soon be on their way.
We know he's a burgeoning author, having published two (soon to be three) books in his The Land of Stories series, but we're sure that second job couldn't have cost Chris his Glee gig.
We’ll keep you updated on Chris’ situation, as we’re sure he’ll be discussing his sudden departure from Glee during his upcoming appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on July 8, if not before then.
Are you shocked that Chris was let go from the show, or did you see this bombshell coming? Try to hold back your tears and tell us your thoughts below.
