Cory Monteith’s (Finn) death a little over a year ago understandably had a profound effect on the Glee cast and crew, but his passing also shook those he didn’t work as closely with including Dani Shay, a former competitor on The Glee Project.
Dani was on Season 2 of the Oxygen show and even though she was eliminated in the second episode, Glee is still very important to her so she penned a song last July after Cory’s death to commemorate him and other fallen stars.
Dani discussed the tune, called “Chasing Madness,” in a recent press release obtained by SheWired.com. She writes, “I had just met him a few months prior [on the set of Glee], and could not believe that this tragically common story of ‘young-fame-leading-to-an early-death’ had repeated itself with someone so close to home.”
Dani explains how Cory’s untimely passing made her question her own role in Hollywood, and eventually “Chasing Madness” was born. “As my heart broke for Lea Michele and Cory’s friends and family, my mind also filled with questions about my own involvement in the so-called ‘entertainment industry,’” she explains.
Although Dani mainly discusses Cory’s death in her press release, the emotional song pays tribute to countless other young stars who have lost their lives with Dani singing, “And I could read this list til’ the break of dawn, but it’s never gonna stop til’ we take it on / I’m afraid it’ll be me before I finish this song.”
