We thought the Glee gals looked positively adorable dressed as school girls in Season 2, Episode 13: “Comeback” — didn’t you? We could all use a bit of Rachel’s “sexy school girl librarian chic” in our wardrobe, right?
Even the famous fashion blogger mentioned in this episode, Scott Schuman of The Sartorialist, gave the show a style shout out on his blog and twitter feed: “Yes, as mentioned on Glee last night I have named Brittany the "Trendiest Teen in America" or something like that.” How cute!
While Brittany and her crew might not win a fashion award any time soon, we loved the school girl vibe in “Comeback”. Sure, the look was intentionally overdone for comedic effect. Scale it back a bit, and you’ve got a fabulous casual daytime ensemble.
To avoid the feel of a uniform, stay away from pleated plaid skirts (and carousel horse sweaters, which goes without saying!). A loose white tank makes an ideal blouse as we head into warmer weather, but you’ll want a cardigan for those cool nights and mornings.
If you’re in the market, we happened upon a dress from Ali Ro with the perfect plaid bottom and white top, all in a tidy one piece package, on sale for $73.50. We selected an over-sized boyfriend cardigan, both for its trendiness and to avoid an overly youthful appearance. A typical button-up sweater screams “little girl” when paired with plaid.
We’re all for tights or over-the-knee socks with this look — depending on weather and personal preference — but we suggest staying away from knee-highs. No need to fear ballet flats, however.
Look for flats with fun or edgy embellishments, like the chain detail on the pair we chose, and no one will think twice about their shape. Yes, you can be chic and comfortable at the same time, we swear!
Check out our school girl ensemble for proof. Just make sure to step away from the headbands!
