For fans of former Glee Project contender Dani Shay, the shock of her elimination in tonight’s Season 2, Episode 2: “Dance-ability” is still very fresh in their minds.

But since the show actually finished taping months ago, the 23-year-old Florida girl told fans this evening that the sting of being let go isn’t quite a strong anymore. Dani hosted a live chat with fans on UStream just minutes after the episode finished airing. Here’s a bit of what she had to say.

In the time that has passed since her Glee Project elimination, Dani says she’s had some time to reflect over the experience and get some perspective. She understands the reasons why she was ultimately sent home, and she’s come to accept them.

“I get the feeling that the mentors are right,” Dani told fans during the chat. Glee is looking for super-energetic Broadway/Top 40 performer who will fit in with the vibe and style of the show — while Dani is more the chill singer-songwriter type, and doesn’t quite fit that bill.

Though she would have loved to be on Glee, Dani says she’s actually quite excited to get the opportunities to pursue her own music more fully, and to spend time focusing on her other artistic passions, like documentary filmmaking.

Plus, for any fans in the Orlando, Florida, area, she’s got a concert coming up at a club called 57 West in downtown Orlando on June 22. Soon after that, she’s moving to New York City to further go after her dreams.

“I really do feel like this was for the best,” she says. “Once I got home, it really became clear to me that my music is where I belong.”

So now that she’s out of the running, which of the remaining contenders does she hope will make it to the end? That would be one of her closest friends on the show, Ali Stroker. “I’m on team Ali,” she says.
