They may sing their hearts out on Glee every week, but plenty of the show’s stars are also currently working on their debut solo albums. Lea Michele (Rachel) tweets about recording for her album almost every day, and both Naya Rivera (Santana) and Amber Riley (Mercedes) have albums on the way sometime in the future.

It’s not just the Glee girls who are taking a step into the world of solo recording. Darren Criss (Blaine) also has an album in the works. We first heard about Darren’s solo album back in Spring 2011, so we know it’s been on his mind for a while.

But when you’re working as a full-time actor on a show like Glee — where late-night shoots are frequent and the concept of free time is virtually unheard of — that doesn’t leave a whole lot of time to make a record.

Hollywood Life recently chatted with Darren after his eBay holiday concert in New York City, and he offered a bit of a progress report on how things are going.

“Slowly but surely, I’m finding the right things I would hopefully one day want to release,” Darren says. “I’m always working on music, so hopefully when it does come out, it’s something that I can be proud of.”

Darren didn’t reveal exactly what sort of musical genre his album would encompass, but he promised that it would be ”Fun music.”
