Have you been loving this summer’s biggest pop hits? Well, try not to get too sick of them yet, since you’re about to hear a few when Glee returns.
Darren Criss (Blaine) told The Hollywood Reporter that we can expect to hear some “popular summer songs,” and that the songs will be ones that feel very much in the style of Glee’s typical selections. “There will be some songs that will feel like this is not a surprise at all,” he says.
In fact, he thinks we can probably figure out which songs have been chosen if we “just do the math.” Uh, we thought that the whole point of summer is that we don’t have to be math!
Darren also talked about the changes we can expect in the new season, saying that “not having everyone in the choir room is strange” and a “different energy.” But fear not, he says — the new season of Glee will be “bigger, better, stronger, and faster, and I have a lot of cool stuff happening.” Awesome — we can use some exciting new Blaine .
Darren is also glad that we’ll be learning more about the original Glee characters beyond just their lives in the choir room. It’s nice to finally “see more of the world that these people live in,” he says.
So let’s follow Darren’s lead and try to predict which songs we might be hearing, shall we? Obviously, there’s one song that has been everywhere for the past six months or so, and that song is “Call Me Maybe.” In fact, if Glee doesn’t choose that one, we will miss it so so bad.
But what others are possibilities? This summer has given us some big hits from a number of perennial Glee faves, like Katy Perry’s “Wide Awake,” Maroon 5’s “Payphone,” or P!nk’s “Blow Me (One Last Kiss),” so we wouldn’t be surprised to see any of those in Season 4.
Okay, Darren — we did the math! You should be proud of us. And now — no more math until autumn, please.
