This week’s Glee Season 3, Episode 15: "Big Brother" gave us a peek into the life and times of one Blaine Anderson – and we discovered that it hasn't always been all cute boyfriends and bow ties for the little brother! Yeppp, there were angsty family issues to spare with the debut of brother Cooper (Matt Bomer), and that more aggressive side to Blaine – which really made a splash around the time that a Slushie hit his eyeball, we think? – continued to develop throughout the episode.
Luckily for Blaine's real-life counterpart, Darren Criss, it seems he wasn't drawing from his own experiences to round out the performance!
Darren told Billboard Magazine recently that the onscreen relationship between Blaine and Cooper was "not at all" like his real-life one with his brother, Chuck (of indie rock band Freelance Whales). "Chuck and I have been joking about how we're looking forward to people giving Chuck any kind of flack for being like Cooper. But no, nothing at all. They could not be further apart.”
He continued, “Chuck and I are extremely close, in age and in relationship, and there's no competition at all. We've grown up wanting the same things, so I'm happy to say that I've grown up with someone not like Cooper, and having a brother like Chuck makes Cooper look ridiculous and extra funny to me."
Darren also commented on that aggro side we've been seeing of Blaine, telling the mag, "He's definitely a calm and composed guy on the surface who has a lot of aggression from his home life and otherwise. He's kind of an angry guy. I enjoy giving a lot of energy, and I think Ryan (Murphy) has enjoyed using that in very big ways, I guess."
Hey, as long as it results in shirtless shower scenes, we're pretty sure you won't hear us complaining! (Oh, c'mon, you knew we were goin' there...)
