When it comes to kissing boys, Darren Criss (Blaine) is an open book. But when prompted to reveal whether or not he has a girlfriend, the breakout Glee star remains coy and evasive. What gives?

In an interview Wednesday, March 23, with Los Angeles’s 104.3MYfm, Darren spilled that his game-changing kiss with Chris Colfer (Kurt) wasn’t his first same-sex liplock.

“Have you ever kissed a man prior to ‘Original Song’?” the interviewer asked.

“Uh, yeah,” Darren responded, “But definitely not in a passionate sort of way. [...] You know, friends of mine, I’ve had a few gay roommates in the past, so, you know, birthdays, things like that. [...] But you know something, for all intents and purposes, I’ll just say no, because those don’t count.”

But the Kurt-Blaine kiss most certainly does. Darren remarked, “It’s been a beautifully set-out relationship, and everyone’s been waiting for it. People would always ask me about it, and my answer was always, ‘Well, if it does happen, let’s hope that they earn it.’” From where we were sitting, it certainly looks like they did!

Not surprisingly, the kiss has stirred up speculation over Darren’s sexuality, which is testament to his acting skills. He emphasized to the interviewer that he’s straight, saying, “It’s more empowering for both communities — for both straight and gay communities — if I’m more comfortable with who I am and what I’m playing.”

Although he clammed up when asked if he has a girlfriend, he revealed that a “hypothetical” girlfriend wouldn’t have been upset about the kiss. Listen to the interview, and tell us what you think: Does his silence on the subject of a lady-friend speak volumes? We think he doth protest a little too much. So, who’s the lucky gal?
