Does Glee’s Alex Newell Consider Himself Transgender?
Alex Newell plays a character on Glee that is pretty, well, Unique. Though Wade Adams was born male, he only truly feels like himself when he is wearing female clothes and living as his alter-ego, Unique. In fact, in Glee Season 4, Episode 16: “Feud,” Unique told Ryder (Blake Jenner) that she wanted him to refer to her as a girl.
But what about Alex, the Season 1 Glee Project runner up who plays Wade and Unique? On November 19, a fan asked the actor on Twitter which of the two characters he identifies with the most — and if he considers himself transgender.
Alex replied, “no I don't consider myself trans,” and added that he relates to both Wade and Unique.
Also during the Twitter Q&A, Alex said that he loves Unique and Marley’s (Melissa Benoist) new friendship, and he said that Melissa is basically his “spirit animal.” Hey, if it leads to more awesome songs like their recent Pink duet, then we are all for it! Somebody get these two besties a cute Glee mashup name, stat.
