Glee Project’s Aylin Bayramoglu on Her Romance with Charlie: “We Still Care About Each Other”
If you thought Aylin Bayramoglu and Lily Mae Harrington were on the brink of wringing each other’s necks on The Glee Project, you’ll be surprised to know that they’re not only roommates but that they now “love the crap out of each other!” My, how things change!
Aylin tells TV Line that the result of last week’s finale was indeed heartbreaking for her. “I wanted it so bad, but I can’t even be upset, because I love Blake Jenner so much. He is just an incredible person,” Aylin says. We also love both Blake and Aylin, which is why we want them both on Glee! Make it happen already, Ryan Murphy!
But at least Aylin can be proud that she left on a high note (so to speak) after her spectacular rendition of “Rolling in the Deep.” Aylin says she decided that her final song would either be that one or “The One That Got Away,” and she was happy with her choice, saying it was “amazing” to have Amber Riley praise her performance. As Aylin says, in regards to herself getting eliminated after that number: “I think a lot of people were shocked.”
Aylin confirms that she definitely had real feelings for Charlie Lubeck and it was not just a showmance. “It turned into something totally real” as the weeks in the house progressed, Aylin says, and “when Charlie left the show, I got really upset.” In fact, Aylin says that she actually dedicated her last-chance performance of “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” to Charlie (so cute!), but it wasn’t shown on air.
So are these two officially an item? Aylin says they’re not, although Charlie just happened to be hanging out at her place while the interview was going on, so interpret that as you will! Aylin also adds, “We still care about each other a lot.” You’re killing us, Aylin and Charlie! Just make things official already!
And Charlie isn’t the only fellow contestant whom Aylin has remained close with. Aylin has dropped out of college and moved to Los Angeles, where she’s living with — wait for it — Lily! That’s right — the contestant whom Aylin was constantly bickering with on the show is now her roomie! In fact, Aylin calls her “one of my closest friends.” Crazy, right?
So why did it seem that Lily and Aylin were total frenemies (at best!) on the show? Aylin says that their comments about each other didn’t affect their friendship. “We did say those things about each other [to the cameras], but right afterward we would go up to the other person and be like, “This is what I just said about you. Like, deal with it.” Uh, whatever works for them!
Aylin says that she hopes to inspire young women and change people’s views. Aylin says that she doesn’t have a “celebrity lookalike,” and because of this, “I never used to think that I was pretty.” Aylin goes on to say, “After 9/11, people are just afraid of Muslims, and I am completely not that stereotype.”
Aylin’s mom remained supportive and was understanding about what Aylin had to do on the show, but there were a few episodes that her mom wasn’t crazy about. For example, her mom wasn’t thrilled when Aylin had to pretend to be pregnant in “Actability” or play a lesbian in “Romanticality.” However, for the most part, Aylin says that her mom “understood that it was acting.”
As for her future, Aylin plans to take acting classes and go on auditions. She points out that she hasn’t given up hope that she might still get on Glee, saying that “a role on Glee would be amazing.” Regardless, she says that “this definitely isn’t the last anyone has seen of me.” We certainly hope not!
