After senior class graduation on Tuesday’s Glee Season 3 finale, Episode 22: "Goodbye," Rachel (Lea Michele) will head off to New York City, Quinn (Dianna Agron) will start packing for Yale, and Santana (Naya Rivera) can begin getting ready for her freshman year at the University of Louisville.
Well, not so fast on that last one. It looks like Santana might not be college bound on her way to Kentucky, after all.
The Hollywood Reporter spoke with Gloria Estefan, who will play Santana’s mother in Tuesday’s finale, and Gloria had some interesting new details on the sassy Cheerio’s post-graduation plans.
Though Sue (Jane Lynch) and Brittany (Heather Morris) were able to get Santana a cheerleading scholarship to the University of Louisville, that doesn’t guarantee she’ll want to take it. Turns out, Santana’s more interested in becoming a star than rushing off to four years of higher education. So will she ditch the idea of college altogether?
Not if her mother has anything to say about it! “Maribel is a typical supportive mom and didn't get to go to college, so she wants Santana [...] to go to college,” Gloria tells THR. “She had to put her dreams second and she doesn't want that for Santana, she wants her to be educated and the best that she can be."
In another strike against higher education, moving to Kentucky would put Santana very far away from her girlfriend, Brittany. But as much as Santana’s mom likes Brittany, she doesn’t want her daughter sacrificing her future for a relationship.
"Maribel thinks a relationship at that age is going to tie you down to some degree, and as a parent, you want your child to have time to blossom," Gloria says. "It's tough to start that early in a relationship but you want them to feel loved and to experience that; all that is going through her head."
What do you hope Santana’s decision will be?
