Glee Season 3 Sectionals Sound Off: Are the New Directions Better Without Rachel?
In this week’s Glee Season 3 episode, “Hold On to Sixteen,” the New Directions made their Sectionals competition debut without the vocal powerhouse that is Rachel Berry anchoring the group. But they held their own with a Michael/Janet Jackson medley against Haromy (Lindsay Pearce)’s Unitards and The Troubletones' belty mashup of "I Will Survive"/"Survivor."
But could they have really won it without Lea Michele’s ballad-belting Berry? Did the boys' gospel-tinged rendition of "Man in the Mirror" get you? How about Mike and Tina's subtly couple-y "ABC" duet? (We don’t even have to ask what you thought of the Blaine [Darren Criss]-led rendition of “Control.” Swoon!)
Though its clear The Troubletones were robbed, McKinley High’s original glee club’s performance wasn’t completely unworthy of a trophy... so it made us wonder:
