Glee manages to pack an insane number of songs into each episode, which means there will always be a few standouts, along with the inevitable dud or two. We've narrowed the performances from Season 4, Episode 4: “The Break-Up,” down to the very best and the coulda-done-without. Do you agree with our picks?
Best Performance of the Night: “The Scientist” by Finchel, Brittana, Klaine, and Wemma
Blaine’s (Darren Criss) uber-sad reprise of “Teenage Dream” was thisclose to nabbing the top spot, thanks to Darren’s powerful performance. (But it’s hard to celebrate a performance that’s basically his admission to cheating, right?) And “The Scientist” just had too much going for it, with everyone appearing on stage for a solo and then harmonizing together. The kicker was those flashbacks, in which everyone was so youthful and — what’s the word? oh, yeah — happy.
In other words, if you think we’re gonna turn down a chance to vote for the song that gave us another glimpse of Blaine in his blazer, you’re dead wrong.
Worst Performance of the Night: “Barely Breathing” by Finn and Blaine
“Nobody said it was easy” to choose the weakest song, especially since this might be the season’s best episode musically. And as much as we loved Finn (Cory Monteith) and Blaine’s harmonies, this song didn’t make the same impact on us that the other ones did. Or maybe we’re just bitter that this is where we first learned about Eli? A note to Eli: No one is allowed to call Blaine sexy except for Kurt — and us.
