Sure, Glee is known for its amazing song performances, but it’s almost equally well-known for it’s crazy fashions. So what can we expect to see Kurt (Chris Colfer) and Rachel (Lea Michele) wearing this season? Glee costume designer Elizabeth Martucci dishes the dirt.

Elizabeth tells Entertainment Weekly that Rachel will undergo a major fashion change in Episode 3, thanks to a “style intervention” courtesy of Kurt. At the beginning of Season 4, Rachel’s outfits will feature many of those familiar preppy skirts and cute berets. But after Episode 3? Not so much.

“Her outfits become more sophisticated and body-conscious,” Elizabeth says. “Once she makes the transition, you’ll see her wearing edgier clothes from lines like Trina Turk, Rag & Bone and Alexander Wang.”

Plus, you know how Rachel tends to have a signature necklace that she’ll wear for multiple episodes? There’s her “Finn” necklace and the gold star pendant rom Season 2, or the apple necklace from Glee’s Season 3 finale. This season, we’ll see her wearing a necklace that says “Rachel,” which Lea and Elizabeth chose after discussing how Carrie had a similar necklace on Sex and the City

And Elizabeth is also having a lot of fun dressing Kurt, as usual. “Kurt has always been fashion-forward, but his Vogue [internship] is something we can really have fun with,” she says. “We dressed him in Balenciaga, Hugo Boss and Dior and also brought back pieces like his hippo brooch to remind him of where he’s come from. ” We can also look forward to seeing him in a pair of Paul Smith pants with a shark tooth print. Wait isn’t Shark Week over?

Just how much say do Chris and Lea have into their characters’ wardrobes? “I always enjoy hearing the actors’ thoughts — it’s a collaboration,” Elizabeth explains. So Lea and Chris are not only amazing performers, but they’re also budding costume designers? Uh, is there anything they can’t do?
