Back when Finn (Cory Monteith) and Artie (Kevin McHale) were casting the starring role of Danny in Grease during Glee Season 4, Episode 5, the two guys were basically ready to hand the role over to Blaine (Darren Criss).

The thing is, Blaine was so heartbroken over his recent breakup with Kurt (Chris Colfer), that he didn’t feel up to taking on such a big role. Luckily, Finn headed out to a football field, found Ryder (Blake Jenner), and just a few scenes later, Grease had its star.

We’re not going to deny that Ryder killed it during this week’s production in Season 4, Episode 6: “Glease.” He was charming, charismatic, and oozed sex appeal. You saw the way his hips were moving on stage, right? We weren’t just imaging it out of some sort of Grease-induced hysteria? The hair. The hips. The smile. He was perfect.

And don’t even get us started on how amazing Ryder was as a co-star, either. He went out of his way to calm all of Marley’s (Melissa Benoist) fears before the show, using a flawless combination of charm, kindness, and humor. Bonus: He looks like an amazing kisser.

But then there’s Blaine. His performance of “Beauty School Dropout” was our favorite of the entire night. He, too, is bursting with charm and charisma, full of stage presence, and also quite capable of making us go weak at the knees.

If Blaine hadn’t have opted out of the part of Danny, we’re fairly certain he would have been fantastic. So we’ve got to ask: do you think Blaine ultimately would have made a better choice for Danny than Ryder. Or are you firmly convinced that Glee made the right casting choice?
