Ever since Marley (Melissa Benoist) collapsed on stage at Sectionals during that shocking cliffhanger ending to Glee Season 4, Episode 8: “Thanksgiving,” we’ve been dying to find out if she’s okay.

On top of that, what does Marley’s collapse mean for the New Directions? Did her fainting episode cost them the competition, or is it possibly that they still managed to soldier through and beat the Warblers despite Marley’s absence?

In this week’s Season 4, Episode 9: “Swan Song,”  Sue (Jane Lynch) reveals the answer to that very burning question.

Speaking to Finn, Sue says: “When your season ended with your loss at Sectionals, I filed the appropriate paperwork so that the Cheerios take full possession of this room, including everything in it.”

So is that it? Are the reigning national champions New Directions really out of the running after the very first competition of the season? It would appear so, but we can’t help but feel suspicious of this assertion.

The New Ds’ fate at Sectionals seems like the sort of thing would be considered a closely-guarded secret. Why would Glee chose to release that information... and days before the revelatory episode is set to air, at that?

In short: We’re still holding out hope that there might be some sort of a twist later in the episode. Maybe one of the other teams will be disqualified. Maybe the judges will reconsider the disqualification. So far, we’ve heard no solid intel that would confirm this, but we refuse to give up hope. There must be some way around this... right? There just has to be!
