Ever since Ryan Murphy first announced that an upcoming episode of Glee would be titled, “The Break-Up,” we’ve been on the lookout for any clues as to which couple — or couples — might be headed for an unfortunate end.
Ryan has since seemed to confirm that only one couple will be breaking up. But which couple is it?
Photographers and fans watched Lea Michele (Rachel), Cory Monteith (Finn), Chris Colfer (Kurt) and Darren Criss (Blaine) film a night-time scene at Battery Park in New York City on August 12, and the photos and eyewitness accounts are fueling speculation that Kurt and Blaine will be the pair who breaks up.
During the scene, Finn and Rachel walk side-by-side through the park at night, with a similarly-paired Kurt and Blaine following them a short distance behind. A fan who was watching the filming nearby tweeted that both couples are singing No Doubt’s “Don’t Speak,” which we’d say definitely qualifies as a breakup song!
The fan reports that Rachel is crying, while Kurt walks away with his hand over his mouth. It appears that Kurt is “CRYING crying. Like sobbing as he walks away.”
So did Kurt and Blaine just break up? Did Rachel and Finn? No one seems to have heard enough dialogue to be able to tell. All we really know is that tears were shed. Obviously, this does not look good for the future of either couple — but we can’t help thinking that there must be more to this story.
If Kurt and Blaine really were breaking up, why would Glee film the scene in public, out in the open, and where they knew plenty of fans would be standing around to watch? If you want to keep something secret, you film it in a soundstage where no paparazzi and fans have access.
Plus, Ryan tweeted a bit of reassurance on August 13, saying “Shippers! Take a deep breath. Watch the season and the stories unfold. Have fun. All will be revealed.#howaboutwewatchtheepisodesfirst.”
We know it appears that one, or even two, Glee couples may have just broken up. However, we’re not yet convinced that this scene will be the entire story. Klaine and Finchel’s relationships will both be on the rocks during “The Break-Up,” but we don’t want to jump to any conclusions and assume they’ve broken up just yet.
