Are we getting clues as to which couple might be the subject of Glee’s now-dreaded upcoming episode, Season 4, Episode 4: “The Break-Up”? It’s hard to say, but regardless of whether they break up, it’s clear that the beginning of Season 4 will not be a picnic for Kurt (Chris Colfer) and Blaine (Darren Criss).

Glee producer Brad Falchuk tells TV Line that Kurt and Blaine will have trouble as early as the season opener. Kurt is frustrated to be left behind in Lima while his fellow graduates are off trying to conquer the world. “Kurt is a little bit stuck in his old life, and Blaine really pushes him to go to New York,” Brad says. We all need a push sometimes, right?

However, it sounds like heading to New York will cause even more problems for the couple. (They can’t win, can they?) Kurt will find “new things that excite him,” and he gets a tad bored when Blaine tries to talk to him about “the minutia of high school life.” Sadly, this means that Blaine “can’t lean on Kurt the way he would have the year before.”

And as if that weren’t enough, Kurt’s absence will cause Blaine to question whether he’s even happy at McKinley anymore. “I think it’s also strange for Blaine to be in this school that he came to really only for Kurt,” Brad says. “He didn’t come because he wanted to go into public high school.” The challenge for Blaine is now to find a new identity, other than as Kurt’s arm candy.

Ready for a little good news? Of course you are! Well, it sounds that Kurt will at least start to have career success. TV Guide says that Kurt will find happiness as a Vogue intern in Episode 3 when an editor — but someone other than Isabelle, played by Sarah Jessica Parker — will help him “recognize his (other) potential.” Is this potential in fashion, or something else in music? Either way, at least something is going right for the guy!
