Start mentally preparing yourself for heartbreak now, Glee fans. Show creator Ryan Murphy has spoken, and one maybe more of Glee’s core couples will bit the dust during the fourth episode of Season 4.

That particular installment is quite aptly titled, “The Break-Up,” and Ryan has confirmed that at least one couple will end things, while producer Brad Falchuk adds that the damage might not be limited to just one pair.

Which couples are in danger? With high school graduation sending nearly all the show’s romantic pairs into the very tricky territory of long-distance relationships, we have to assume no one is safe.

Finn (Cory Monteith) and Rachel (Lea Michele) ended their engagement last season, but the exact state of their relationship seems unclear, and we assume they still might be in the running for an official breakup.

Speculation is running rampant that Kurt (Chris Colfer) and Blaine (Darren Criss) will break up, especially after photos emerged from Episode 4 filming that showed Kurt running away from Blaine crying. However, Ryan told fans on Twitter that they shouldn’t jump to any conclusions quite yet. Chris Colfer said that he think[s] everything is gonna be okay” and that he and Darren still have songs that they want to sing together.

Comforting? We guess. But also both vague and in no way flat-out denying a breakup.

Brittany (Heather Morris) and Santana (Naya Rivera) are another solid possibility, since we know that Brittany will be sobbing in her bed during Episode 2, heartbroken over having to be without Santana. Also notable: Glee Project winner Blake Jenner, who has said he thinks it’d be fun for his character to date Britt, makes his big debut in Episode 5. Just a coincidence? Possibly. Possibly not.

Sam (Chord Overstreet) and Mercedes (Amber Riley) are out of the running, since Ryan Murphy already said that Sam will be getting a new girlfriend this year. Their breakup has already been announced, so we think it’s highly unlikely they’d be the couple-in-question.

As far as we know, Emma (Jayma Mays) and Will (Matthew Morrison) are still engaged, but producer Brad Falchuk said recently that their relationship will take a back seat in these first few episodes, which leads us to believe that the breakup is not them, either.

With Mike (Harry Shum Jr.) off in Chicago at Joffrey — and surrounded by so many pretty ballet dancers, no less — will he and Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz be the ones whose relationship bites the dust? It’s always a possibility, especially since news of a Tike breakup would probably incur the wrath of fewer fans than, say, a Klaine or Brittana breakup.

Those are our thoughts. Now we want to know what you think. At least one couple is breaking up this season — maybe more. If you had to pick just one, which duo do you think is headed for heartbreak?
