Real-life lovebirds Lea Michele (Rachel) and Cory Monteith (Finn) may be going strong, but their Glee characters’ relationship isn’t looking anywhere near as rosy.

In the last few moments of the Season 3 finale, Finn suddenly broke up with his fiance, put her on a train to New York City, and ran off to go join the army and help restore honor to his father name. Yet since both characters are guaranteed to return for Season 4 this fall, we can’t help but wonder: Will the breakup really stick?

Creator Ryan Murphy isn’t saying anything. He maintains that Finn’s storyline next season is a “big secret,” and he’s not ready to give any of the details away! So E! Online asked Lea if she knew any details — but since the Glee star hasn’t seen any Season 4 scripts yet, she said she’s still totally in the dark.

“I don’t know yet. We’re going to have to see!” Lea told E! at the Chrysalis Butterfly Ball on June 9. “It’s going to be interesting to see what happens. I know that there are many Finchel fans out there.” Fan reaction isn’t the only reason that Lea’s hoping for a Finn and Rachel reunion, though! “Obviously, I love working with Cory, so I selfishly want them to work out, but, you know, we’ll have to see.”

Given Finn and Rachel’s relationship history, Lea seems pretty confident that the couple might still have a shot. “With these television characters, they pull them apart and they bring them back together,” she says, smiling. “So...”

Fingers crossed for a Finchel reunion!
