UPDATE: Fox has now officially renewed Glee for both Seasons 5 and 6!
Every time another day goes by without Glee getting renewed for Season 5, we die a little on the inside. FOX has currently renewed almost every other show on the network, and the thought of having to face a world without Glee quite frankly has us teetering on the edge of a panic attack.
Well, stop clutching those teddy bears and snap yourself out of the fetal position. E! Online is reporting that Glee most definitely will be renewed. We just need to have patience.
The news comes from an unnamed source at Fox, who promises that the show is “coming back for sure.” Negotiations are the only thing still holding up an official announcement.
This new report is very in line with what we’ve been hearing for months: There’s no way Glee’s getting cancelled. Sure, ratings might be down a bit, but the show is still a success overall. Cancelling it now would make no sense.
Still, we can’t help but wonder just what sort of negotiations might be holding things up. Likely, one or more of the cast members is asking for a raise. Last season, star Lea Michele (Rachel) got her salary nearly doubled to $75k per episode. She could be asking for more, or one of her co-stars might want to start seeing an equal amount of dough.
There have also been rumors that co-creators Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan want out, so they could be negotiating for more money, as well.
Whatever the case, Glee still has some details to iron out before Season 5 can be made official. But it will be made official... at least Fox insiders are to be trusted. Worry not!
