UPDATE: Naya confirms on Twitter that Santana will be back for Season 5. In addition, TV Line's Michael Ausiello reports that Santana will be getting a serious girlfriend in Season 5. However, we still don't know if Naya will be a full-time cast member, or just a guest character.
If you ask us, Naya Rivera (Santana Lopez) has been one of the best parts of Glee's fantastic fourth season — that scene where she was digging through trash? Glorious — but is this sarcastic Cheerio going to come back as a full-time cast member for Season 5?
Let's not forget that several OG Gleeks have scaled back their hours (like Dianna Agron [Quinn Fabray], who's barely been featured this season thanks to her other work commitments, like a starring role in the film Malavita), and we're worried that Naya might be the next starlett to jump ship.
"I think we’ve been on the show a really long time," Naya tells Vulture. "I wasn’t really sure what they were going to do with Santana but I think that her story line is evolving and there is more to tell. So yeah, I’d absolutely be down to be around for some portion of that."
Um, "some portion" doesn't exactly sound like a full-time gig. Which is understandable considering that Naya's hard at work on her debut album. "There is the album stuff that I desperately want to get done," she explains. "It’s just a matter of finding a balance. We won’t get into it until after we wrap at the end of April. We’re getting the longest hiatus we’ve ever had this year, so I’m super excited about that."
Hopefully, Naya will finish up her album during Glee's hiatus so she can come back to the fold as a full time cast member!
That said, Naya does seem slightly bummed about some of the big changes Glee's made in the past year. "It does feel like a different show and sometimes I get really sad about it," she says. "I have no idea about the gossip and drama with the new kids! I feel like I’ve really grown up because we used to have all that stuff and now we don’t."
Hmmm, looks like Naya might be ready to move on! Do you think this gal will scale down her Glee hours, or come back as a full-time cast member?
