As excited as we felt to see Jonathan Groff make his return to Glee as Vocal Adrenaline coach Jesse St. James in Season 3, Episode 16: “Saturday Night Glee-ver,” we have to say that Rachel’s (Lea Michele) former flame didn’t get nearly as much screentime as we’d been hoping for.
Sure, he made lots of great facial expressions while running around off-stage and yelling at his lead singer Wade (Alex Newell) to stop singing, but why no interaction with Rachel? The couple otherwise known as “St. Berry” has quite the tumultuous romantic history, and we don’t think they’ve seen or spoken to each other since Rachel decided to get engaged to Finn (Cory Monteith).
Does this sound to anyone else like the makings of a very awkward reunion? Especially after everything that went down between Finn and Jesse at last year’s prom.
But, with Jesse only so far confirmed to be in ONE more episode of this season, are he and Rachel even going to be speaking at all? Or will Jesse’s scenes remain only with the Vocal Adrenaline crew?
Well, fear not, St. Berry fans: We have it on good authority that there will be at least one Rachel/Jesse scene in May 15’s Season 3, Episode 21 Nationals competition. Lea Michele herself is spreading the news!
On April 27, Lea tweeted, “It's been such a long week! Nationals are finally over! Get to work with Groff and Whoopi today! Can't wait!”
Wait: Rachel, Jesse, and Whoopi Goldberg’s Carmen Tibideaux? Sounds like a bit of a random grouping to us. What would bring a New Directions student, the Vocal Adrenaline coach, and an admissions person for NYADA together for the same scene?
Furthermore, what Carmen Tibideaux doing at the Nationals competition in Chicago anyway? After she gives Kurt (Chris Colfer) and Rachel their admissions fate, we just assumed she’d be on the first plane back to New York.
With all these rumors that Rachel chokes during her NYADA audition and doesn’t make it in, we can’t help but hope that Jesse is somehow lending a hand to try and convince NYADA to reconsider her acceptance. That would be a very stand-up thing of him to do.
What’s even more interesting, we’ve read reports on Twitter that say Cory Monteith was also involved in taping some of those scenes. We’re talking solo interaction between Jesse and Rachel followed by Finn suddenly stepping in. Then Rachel leaves, and the scene ends with Jesse and Finn talking.
Fans on set weren’t able to make out what any of them were saying, but all their descriptions definitely piqued our interest! What do you think will be going on in that shot?
