PSY’s “Gangnam Style” is, by its very nature, absolutely ridiculous. Watch the music video for two seconds and that fact becomes perfectly clear. “Gangnam Style” is cheesy, over-the-top crazy pop music at its best. In fact, it’s so terrible, somehow it’s fantastic.

We knew it was only a matter of time before Glee took on this K-pop hit. The show already covered Rebecca Black’s “Friday” and Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe.” This one was bound to happen sooner or later.

The New Directions performed “Gangnam Style” during Season 4 Sectionals, with Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz) on the lead. The dance moves were familiar, but between the sheer amount of bodies onstage, the elegant competition background, and all the fancy show choir outfits — something got lost in the mix.

PSY’s video is goofy perfection, full of bright colors, conspicuous dance moves, and pure absurdity. It’s hard to get all of that to translate up on the Sectionals stage.

That’s not to say the New Directions didn’t do a bang-up job, given the constraints. Tina got a rare chance to shine, and shine she did.

Plus, don’t even get us started about Jake (Jacob Artist) and and his secret dance skills. Did you see all of those backflips he pulled off so flawlessly? We’re finding more and more reasons to love Little Puck each week.

Which of the two performances did you like the best? Did the New Ds win you over with their version of “Gangnam Style,” or do you think PSY — in all his cheesy glory — is the one who ultimately did it best?
