Kurt (Chris Colfer) and Blaine (Darren Criss) might still be broken up, but Blaine has known for a while that he wants to be with Kurt forever. And he’s recently come to the conclusion that the best way to win back his true love is to get down on one knee and propose!
In Glee Season 4, Episode 21: "Wonder-ful," Blaine approached Kurt’s dad, Burt (Mike O’Malley), to formally ask his permission. Sadly, for him, though, Burt is not on board with the idea of his son getting married so young. His initial reaction: “Are you kidding, or are you nuts?”
Blaine took a moment to explain his reasoning. “Kurt is my soulmate. I know that I’ve hurt him badly, but I also know that if I want to get him back, I have to do something bold.”
Burt tells Blaine that he’s been like family to him, and that his love for Kurt means a lot. But when Blaine mistakenly interprets this as Burt giving his blessing, the elder Hummel is quick to correct him.
“Oh, of course not. No, you’re still kids. Did you learn anything from Finn and Rachel?” Blaine fires back that he and Kurt are nothing like Finn and Rachel, and that one failed high school wedding doesn’t necessarily mean all high school weddings are doomed.
“And you don’t really get what it is to be married: straight, gay, whatever,” Burt tells him. “It’s not the same as living together. Blaine, listen. Lets sit down for a second. Seriously, come here. Look, I can’t tell you why, but something happens when you exchange vows. It’s a big deal. It’s why getting divorced is so much harder than breaking up. It’s just a really big difference between marrying a person, and marrying an idea.”
Blaine is worried that Kurt will meet someone else, and he doesn’t want to lose him. “You think you two were meant to be?” Burt asks him. “Yes.” “You think you two have a true love?” “Yes!”
“Then stop worrying!” he says. “It’s gonna be okay.”
It’s not the answer Blaine was looking for, but honestly, it sounds like that might not even matter! Glee creator Ryan Murphy has already revealed that Blaine will be shopping for an engagement ring in the Season 4 finale. Sounds like he plans to go through with proposing, whether he has Burt’s blessing or not!
