Glee’s Christmas Song Gets Rave Reviews From Bono and Sting [VIDEO]
Nice to know we’re not the only ones loving Glee’s version of “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” (airing Tuesday, December 13). Two of the biggest artists ever to lay down vocals for the star-studded track — Bono and Sting — were also pleased by the results.
In a behind-the-scenes video for the upcoming Season 3, Episode 9, “Extraordinary Merry Christmas,” the two mega stars spoke on how being involved with Band Aid — the charity supergroup that recorded the song in the mid-80s to raise money for famine relief in Ethiopia — affected their lives. Bono, a known philanthropist, credits the project for inspiring his future charity efforts, including the Product Red campaign of Gap shirt fame.
Glee continues the tradition of giving back through song with 100% of the net proceeds from sales of their version going to the Band Aid Trust, a move that garners the seal of approval by Bono and co.
“I love the idea that... the Gleek generation are taking songs like ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’ and re-imagining them,” says Damian McGinty’s countryman and U2 frontman. “That gives new life to that idea. It makes me very happy, indeed.”
