Proposal or not, last night's Glee Season 3, Episode 10: "Yes/No" was a big one for Finn Hudson (Cory Monteith). The poor guy went from wanting to join the army in tribute to his dead father, to finding out his father was a drug addict who died of an overdose (!!!), to deciding it was time to make another big step and propose to his 17 year-old girlfriend! (Seriously, geez, dude!) For the normally smiley-faced fella, it was pretty heavy stuff ― and his on-screen counterpart Cory Monteith wants more!
"I loved it," Cory told TVLine of the opportunity to play up Finn's struggles. "I'm so happy that Ryan [Murphy] wrote me this stuff, because it's been a long time coming with Finn, dealing with the dad stuff and his relationship coming to a head with Rachel. I was thrilled! It doesn't feel forced, it's just a very organic place in the series for this to happen."
We have to wonder, though, if on the precipice of his graduation ― and the pending response from Rachel ― Finn will still ponder enlisting in the army? (Surely confirmation that he'll be back for season four throws a wrench in that, right?)
"It was pretty true to form as far as Finn's indecisiveness and not knowing where he wants to take his life." Cory said of the potential plotline re-route. "It was kind of cool that at the same time he was considering enlisting, he found out these heavy truths about his father, and I hope that is carried forward. There's still a lot more to explore as far as that is concerned for him. It's the beginning of Finn unraveling that stuff in his past, and I don't think it's the end."
Might that include a dream sequence in which high school Finn connects with middle-aged Finn a la a Bee Gees tune with John Travolta?! Dare to dream!
"Yes, please!" Cory told TV Guide recently of the guest-star prospect. "I really hope that happens because it would be amazing, just as a look-back-on-your-life-when-you're-50 kind of thing. I hope Ryan goes through with it and I hope that they ask John and I hope he says yes! I've got my fingers crossed at this point."
Oh yes, we'll be crossing our fingers, too!
