Tonight’s Glee Season 4, Episode 15: "Girls (and Boys) On Film" was all about paying tribute to the music of some beloved movies. And for anyone who loves music and dance, that has to include the music of “Footloose.”
The New Directions performed the title song from the classic 1984 movie, and the resulting upbeat, energetic dance number was pretty hard to beat! Sam (Chord Overstreet), Blaine (Darren Criss) and plenty of our other New Direction favorites got solos, but what we most love about group numbers like “Footloose” is how well they showcase the talents of every member of the group... not just one.
Plus, for fans of multiple FOX shows, the significance of who sang this song originally can not be overlooked. The 1984 movie starred Kevin Bacon as rebel dancer Ren McCormack.
Now that his dancing days appear to be behind him, Bacon is currently starring on FOX’s creepy new drama, The Following, where he plays a dedicated former FBI agent who must hunt down a serial killer... while trying to avoid being done in by his foe’s devoted following.
Given this info, we can’t help but wonder if Glee’s “Footloose” performance was also meant to double as a little shout-out to their fellow FOX family member. But either way, the performance was a blast to watch.
Now if you’ll excuse us, we have to go track down our dancing shoes!
