When Darren Criss crooned his way into our hearts with his Glee Season 2 cover of Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream,” we weren’t the only ones instantly smitten with Blaine the Warbler.

Hollywood fell for the uber-talented guy as well, and now this BFD has his first indie under his hipster suspenders. Darren plays Lee, a member of a Backstreet Boys cover band, in the upcoming Kristen Wiig comedy Imogene, which features an unlikely romance between his character and Kristen’s titular (anti-)heroine. Lionsgate has acquired the U.S. distribution rights for the film, though it doesn’t yet have a release date.

According to IMDb, Darren’s only other movie role was as Yippee Man in 2011’s The Chicago 8. It wasn’t a significant part, and we’re guessing his character’s most notable contribution was an exuberant exclamation. We haven’t seen it, though, so perhaps he also delivered a rich monologue.

Darren’s pre-Glee resume includes several short films, stints on the TV series Little White Lie and Eastwick, and his made-for-YouTube musicals A Very Potter Musical and A Very Potter Sequel.

If Darren continues to act as well as his biceps (thank you, Glee costume designers, for letting those babies breathe!), he’ll have a long and successful career ahead of him.
