Tonight, March 16, Glee Project finalist Lindsay Pearce will make her debut on stage as Wendla in a Los Angeles-based production of the Broadway hit, Spring Awakening.

When Wetpaint Entertainment spoke with Lindsay last week, she told us it was a dream come true to land the role. The part of Wendla was originated on Broadway by Glee’s very own Lea Michele (Rachel), and anyone who watched The Glee Project last year knows she’s a huge fan of Lea.

“To play the part that she originated is a pretty big deal for me. It just makes me laugh. It’s really cool,” she told us. However, not every Glee fan seems to be on board with the idea. In fact, it appears that Lindsay has been experiencing her fair share of backlash since word got out she would be taking on Lea’s former role.

Some of the comments fans wrote about Lindsay were anything but supportive — name calling, personal attacks, etc — to the point where one fan even wrote, “Wow, Lea Michelle fans are HUGE jerks.”

On the afternoon of the 18, Lindsay posted a series of tweets on her (@lindsayhpearce) Twitter account.

Tonight is opening. I know many Glee fans do not like me, or the fact that I am playing Lea's old role, but I am still so honored to be a part of this amazing show, this cast and to have this experience.

She continued, “Spring Awakening is a special show, no matter who is in it, so I wanted to say thank you to all of you out there who are supporting this show, me, and my fellow castmates. We are honored, and we love you so much. Thank you for being my inspirations, for following my journey growing as a young woman and sticking by me in my hard times. I am so grateful”

Curt Mega, who plays Nick the Warbler on Glee, quickly tweeted, “@lindsayhpearce 2 things 1: BREAK LEGS. You will be amazing. And 2: I LIKE YOU! I'm one of your biggest fans. That is all ;)”

There will always be haters, but we honestly hope Lindsay isn’t letting the negativity get to her. Anyone who has seen her perform knows she has talent. We can’t wait to see all the great places she’ll go from here!
