Glee is known for casting actors very similar to the characters they play. Lea Michele sometimes seems like she’s basically a real-life version of Rachel Berry. Naya Rivera is just as sassy and sexy as Santana.
So when Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with former The Glee Project 2 stars Lily Mae Harrington and Charlie Lubeck at a rehearsal for “The Concert Project” last week, we had to ask if their season’s winner Blake Jenner is anything like his Glee alter ego.
“I love the character Ryder because it's Blake! It's literally Blake,” Lily told us. “I remember there was one scene where Marley was throwing up in the bathroom. And he was the guy who was saying, ‘Don't do it, you're so beautiful!’ Blake is so that guy. That scene happened and we were like, ‘Is he acting right now?’”
That said, Lily acknowledges that there are differences between the two. “I'd say Blake is more — he plays a little bit of a comedic role — but he is way more of the funny guy in real life. When you're sitting next to Blake, you're peeing your pants laughing. You just can't, you just can't. He's so funny.”
And yes, she has example that illustrate why. “This is a very particular thing about Blake — he has no spatial awareness for anyone. He will be touching and you're like What are you doing? Get off me. He's like a puppy.”
As for Charlie, he and Blake once dressed up as ridiculous superheroes during The Glee Project 2, so Charlie knows first hand how funny his former co-star can be.
“He's good,” Charlie says of Blake’s small screen turn as Ryder. “I'm anxious to see the comedian we all know Blake is to come out fully. He's a lion, man, when he wants to be.”
