Blaine (Darren Criss) might be going to NYADA! In Glee Season 5, Episode 8, he and Sam (Chord Overstreet) went to NYC, and Blaine is considering attending.

NYADA, which stands for New York Academy of the Dramatic Arts, is the highly-selective performing arts school in NYC that Kurt (Chris Colfer) and Rachel (Lea Michele) are both currently attending on Glee. Now that NYADA is almost as much a part the show as McKinley High School, we wonder: Does NYADA actually exist in real life? Or, like local Glee establishments Breadstix and The Lima Bean, is it just a cleverly-constructed figment of the Glee writers’ imaginations?

Sorry to burst the bubble of any prospective NYADA applicants, but the much-talked about NYC performing arts school is totally fake!

But it can’t be, you might insist. NYADA has its own Facebook page and everything! Sadly, as official as that New York Academy of the Dramatic Arts (NYADA) page on Facebook might look, it’s actually a roleplayer account.

Take, for example, the April 25 post that touts, “Our very own Carmen Tibideaux is going to Lima, Ohio to visit applicants Kurt Hummel and Rachel Berry from William McKinley High School for their auditions.” Real Facebook pages just don’t post about fictional TV characters.

While NYADA might not be an actual school, it’s easy to see real-life parallels between it and some real-life NYC drama schools. First of all, there’s Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, where new guy Chandler hopes to attend next year, and where Lea Michele got in in real life before choosing her career over college.

In addition, there’s also a New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts — NYCDA — and American Academy of Dramatic Arts — AADA — both also in NYC. So while it’s easy to see where the inspiration Glee got its inspiration for the fictional NYADA, the school itself doesn’t actually exist.

Which means you can’t actually take a class from Whoopi Goldberg, and you’ll never find yourself sitting in class across the row from Rachel Berry. As absolutely epic as that might be.
