The answers may differ, but if you ask people what character got them hooked on Glee, we’re willing to wager our paychecks that a good number would cite Sue Sylvester. Her one-liners—and their spot-on delivery by Jane Lynch —are so wrong they’re right, and we’ve loved her since the very first episode. That’s why we’re so thrilled that OUT Magazine named Jane “Entertainer of the Year” and put her on the cover.

Inside the December issue, Jane cites actors “who make big choices, who don’t stay safe,” as her inspirations, naming former co-star Meryl Streep among them. (Jane and Meryl worked together on Julie & Julia.) “She might be playing a character who’s not as eccentric as Julia Child or Margaret Thatcher, but her stakes are always very high.” Jane is definitely a risk taker, too, never afraid to let Sue’s brittle Queen-of-Mean exterior crumble in order to reveal her vulnerability. And as much as we love Sue’s insults, we love seeing her softer side even more. We’re dying to see her in action as a mom this season!

Congratulations, Jane!
