Jonathan Groff (Jesse St. James) recently scored a starring role in a sexy new HBO pilot, but that’s definitely not the only project the Glee guest star has in the works. Entertainment Weekly reports that Jonathan has signed on for Glee creator Ryan Murphy’s new movie, The Normal Heart.
And get this: He’s playing Taylor Kitsch’s love interest. If you’ve seen Friday Night Lights or John Carter, then you know full well how awesome this casting decision is. The pure awesomeness of J.Groff + the gorgeous, chiseled ab-tacularness of Taylor Kitsch? Yes, please.
Set in New York City in the early 1980s, The Normal Heart chronicles the rise of the HIV/AIDS crisis. Taylor will play Bruce Niles, an investment banker-turned-AIDS activist, while Jonathan takes on the role of Craig, Bruce’s first lover, who ultimately succumbs to the disease.
Also keeping in the Glee family, White Collar and Magic Mike star Matt Bomer — who guest starred in Season 3 as Blaine’s (Darren Criss) older brother, Cooper — has also signed on for the film.
We’re most familiar seeing Jonathan in more comedic, light-hearted roles, so we’re excited by the prospect of seeing him take on such a dramatic and impactful piece. What do you think: Will you be watching when The Normal Heart premieres on HBO next year?
