Back in December, right before Glee aired Season 3, Episode 9: “Extraordinary Merry Christmas,” the show released a preview photo of Kurt (Chris Colfer) and Blaine (Darren Criss) that threw many a Klaine fan into quite a frenzy.

The image shows Kurt opening a tiny box from Blaine — the sort of box that just might have a ring inside! The speculation came instantly. Were Kurt and Blaine getting engaged? Or could it just be a promise ring? What sort of bling had Blaine picked out for his man, anyway?

Then came the episode, and... nothing. The Klaine gift exchange scene was nowhere to be found. It wasn’t the only scene to get cut on the editing room floor, but even knowing that doesn’t exactly help soften the sting.

Thankfully, co-creator Ryan Murphy released the scene on YouTube on August 1. Watch the entire romantic exchange below:

Before the big video reveal, TV Line’s Michael Ausiello had already shared what exactly Kurt found inside the box, and now pages from the episode’s original script had surfaced, as well. After Elton obtained a copy of the script — which cost $4,200 at a charity auction benefiting Project Angel Food — and was purchased as a joint effort by Glee fans who banded together on Tumblr to raise the necessary funds.

So is dropping almost $5,000 worth it? For these diehard Klaine fan, absolutely. (In fact, the fans have even collected an additional $9,000 that they also plan to donate to Project Angel Food.)

Via After Eltonthe Glee script confirms that Blaine did not give Kurt and engagement ring — probably a good thing, considering the track record for engagements on this show. Instead, Blaine gifts his BF with a cute little promise ring made entirely of gum wrappers.

Portions of the script appear below. Click here to read the extended version.

Blaine
(offers Kurt a tiny gift box): I know we’ve taken things to a new level recently, so—

Kurt
(jumping the gun): If this is an engagement ring, yes! What’s better than Christmas in New York? Eloping and getting married in Central Park, on Christmas!

Blaine:
Just — open the box, Kurt. (Kurt does.) It’s a promise ring. I made it out of gum wrappers. Juicy Fruit.

Kurt:
My favorite Wrigley’s. And— (eyes misting)— is that a little bow tie? But what are you promising?

Blaine:
To always love you. To defend you even if I know you’re wrong. To surprise you. To always pick up your call no matter what I’m doing. To bake you cookies at least twice a year and to kiss you whenever you want. Mostly to make sure that you always remember how perfectly imperfect you are. I know it’s not something Elizabeth Taylor would have worn—

Kurt:
I love it. I love you.

Blaine:
Merry Christmas, Kurt. Our first Christmas together.

Kurt:
 First of many.

After Elton adds that the unaired scene is rumored to be included on the Glee Season 3 DVD extras. We certainly hope so. Adorable Klaine scenes have been few and far between lately, and plenty of viewers have taken note.

With no on-screen liplock since Season 3, Episode 5, “The First Time,” — yes, that is a total of 17 episodes — Klaine fans have been getting quite restless for signs of affection between the couple.

For many, the uncovering of this lost scene feels like a triumph. “The fans wanted to take back what was ours, to see what the censors took out, and to do good for charity,” Teej, one of the Tumblr organizers of the script-purchasing fundraiser, tells the site.

It’s a scene that’s well worth the wait, we just hope there can also be many more romantic exchanges like it in the future.
