Kurt and Blaine's Sex Scene on Glee Season 3: Chris Colfer Responds to Backlash (VIDEO)
Kurt (Chris Colfer) and Blaine's (Darren Criss) first time back in Glee Season 3, Episode 5 may have been a favorite moment for fans, but plenty of people were outraged with the way Glee handled the topic of sex when it came to the high school characters.
When the women of The View asked Chris for his thoughts on the whole debacle during a July 17 interview, the Glee star said he doesn’t fully understand how the whole thing got to be such a big deal in the first place.
"Kids know high schoolers are having sex in high school. That's not a secret," he says.
Host Barbara Walters asked if he thought the fact that Glee was showing sex between two boys may have intensified the controversy, and Chris says that did appear to be the case. After all, Kurt and Blaine’s story played out in near exact harmony with that of straight couple Finn (Cory Monteith) and Rachel (Lea Michele) — and that hookup seemed to havecaused much less controversy.
Yet instead of focusing on the critics, Chris says he would rather pay attention to how much good the show is doing. "I personally get letters from kids every single day who write to me in secret because they live in environments who don't accept who they are. So I could really care less what those people [critics] say."
Whatever you think about the issue, it obviously struck a nerve in pop culture as a whole. That episode aired over eight months ago, and people are still talking about it!
