Glee star Lea Michele (Rachel) is famous for having a total of 14 tattoos — that’s the most of anyone in the Glee cast — which is no small feat, considering how many tatts they all have amongst themselves.
Yet when Lea stopped by The Late Show With David Letterman on in May 21 to help promote Glee’s Season 3 Finale, the daringly-dressed actress revealed quite the unique and unexpected motivation for getting all her ink: family bonding time!
“For me, it’s weirdly enough like a family activity,” Lea explained to Dave. “I come from a very big Italian family, and tattoos are very popular. So it will be, like, Easter, and we’ll be talking and we’ll be like, Let’s all go get tattoos! And then we get super sentimental, and then the next day I wake up and with like another, like, butterfly on my foot.”
Lea showed off two of her tatts in particular: an intricate design on her wrist that signifies her Broadway role in Spring Awakening, and a gold star on her hand in honor of her Glee character, Rachel Berry.
So does Lea have plans to get even more ink? Don’t bet on it. The Glee star tells Dave that her secret to getting away with 14 total tatts is “they’re all so little that you don’t see [them].”
“That’s why I’m done, though,” she explained. “Because all my secret, hidden spots are done, like my real estate is over.”
“You have 14 secret spots?” Dave interjected. And... now things digress. Oh, late night talk shows...
