Think you were upset when Finn (Cory Monteith) broke up with Rachel (Lea Michele) and ran off to join the army in Glee’s Season 3 finale? That’s nothing compared to how Lea Michele felt.

In fact, when Lea first got the script about the demise of her character’s relationship, Lea tells The Hollywood Reporter she was so angry that she called creator Ryan Murphy immediately.

"I was like, 'What are you doing! He wouldn't do that to her!' " Lea says. "I was so upset, I was mad at Finn, I was mad at Ryan. I was like, 'This can't be happening, we've worked so hard to keep them together.' "

Getting mad at a fictional character for something they did on TV? Nice to know we’re not the only ones who do that. Plus, since Lea and her co-star Cory just started dating in real life not too long ago, we imagine that experiencing their on-screen alter egos have a painful break up must have been a little weird.

Lea compared Finn and Rachel to some of TV’s most beloved couples, like Friends' Ross and Rachel, Felicity's Ben and Felicity, saying many of the dynamics are the same between them. “They pull them together and pull them apart,” she tells THR. “It's what makes it exciting but also realistic because they're young and as much as I think that they love each other, this is what happens in young relationships."

Now that she’s had more time to think about it, Lea says she’s excited for the chance to see Rachel and Finn apart for a while, but she’s still doesn’t know for sure if that’s what will end up happening.

Ultimately, she’s now come to terms with the reasons behind Finn’s decision to break things off with Rachel. "He loves her so much that he has to do what's best for her," Lea says. "It was so heartbreaking but from knowing Finn, it's really what he would do: he wouldn't let her hold herself back from her dreams."
