Last year, Lea Michele (Rachel) spent Valentine’s Day on a romantic dinner date with her co-star Cory Monteith (Finn). It was our first clue that the co-stars were dating in real life, and the story of their Valentine’s date immediately captured the hearts of Glee fans everywhere.
So this year, as Cory and Lea can officially celebrate their one-year anniversary as a couple, how did the couple celebrate? Sadly, they didn’t. Well... not during dinner at least.
With Cory busy on set filming Glee on Valentine’s evening, Lea ended up spending Valentine’s Day with another very special man in her life: Her best friend, Jonathan Groff (Jesse St. James)!
Jonathan was Lea’s co-star back during their Broadway days in Spring Awakening, and they have remained close friends ever since. Jonathan, for his part, is currently dating Star Trek’s Zachary Quinto.
Glee creator Ryan Murphy posted this adorable photo of Jonathan and Lea hanging out in the evening. “My Valentines! Cory, I'm so sorry you had to work! Xo” he tweeted.
Hopefully Cory and Lea will find some time to make up for the date they missed. Because no matter how adorable Jonathan Groff might be, your best friend is still no substitute for your sweetheart on Valentine’s Day.
