We may have been the slightest bit hesitant when we first heard that Glee would be performing original songs, but that hesitation disappeared with Season 2, Episode 16: “Original Song.” “Get it Right” and “Loser Like Me” are so catchy, so meaningful, and so downright awesome that we’re totally sold. (Oh, and hell no we can’t forget about “Hell to the No!”) We aren’t the only fans of the originals, either. Darren Criss (Blaine) tweeted to Lea Michele (Rachel) after the episode aired: “@msleamichele Girl, you absolutely CRUSHED your song. It gets better every time I listen to it- of course, I'm talkin about ‘Only Child.’”
Sure, Darren may have been joking, but we really liked the goofy original songs as well. Santana’s “Trouty Mouth”? Puck’s “Big A$$ Heart”? Sign us up! With recent Bieber- and Katy Perry-infused episodes, the creativity of the Regionals endeavor is just what the doctor ordered. Really, any fears we had of Glee jumping the shark have totally been allayed. We hope they keep it up!
