It looks like the cast of Glee is moving on sooner rather than later. Ryan Murphy told Ryan Seacrest on his radio show Friday morning that the New Directions high school seniors will graduate in 2012.
“This next [season] will be their senior year, and then that [they] will graduate. We didn’t want to have a show where they were in high school for eight years,” he said. “We really wanted to be true to that experience.”
That means new kids will be “folded” into the mix next season, though don’t expect the winner of the Glee project to replace Lea Michele (Rachel) just yet. “There’s a couple rumors floating around, that half the cast is go to be replaced by the winner of The Glee Project, which is not true,” Murphy said.
As for who will stay behind, it’s simple: the adults. He says that Matthew Morrison (Mr. Schuester) and Jane Lynch (Sue) are “the male and female lynchpins of the series.”
